Stephen Knight is Executive Chairman of Checkmate Mortgages
Limited, a new mortgage lender currently seeking capital with a
view to launch next year.
Previously Stephen was Executive Chairman at GMAC-RFC UK, a company
he grew from a virtual standing start to Top Ten lender status
in just five years – outgrowing the market eleven-fold. In
2006, Stephen’s last year, the company advanced £12.1
billion and made profits in excess of £100m.
Prior to GMAC-RFC UK, Stephen created Private Label – the
UK’s
first ever packager – in 1987, growing it into the UK’s
largest privately owned distributor of mortgages by 1998, when
it was sold to GMAC-RFC.
Stephen has received industry awards for Leadership and Lifetime
Achievement and is the author of two books: The Art of Marketing
Mortgages (Collins and Brown 1997), and Creator and Trader: A Vision
for growth in the UK Mortgage Market (AAPPL 2006).

Jeremy combines more than 17 years’ in business and politics

Iain leads the agency’s corporate communications practice
and has over 18 years’ experience in politics, public affairs
campaigning and financial services journalism. Iain has advised
numerous organisations, including financial institutions, trade
and regulatory bodies, NGOs and political parties in the UK and
US. Iain is a regular contributor on financial services issues
to broadcast media and the financial press.

Terry Paul: Account Director |

Terry is an MBA Graduate with experience in politics and business.
Before joining Cicero, Terry was a key figure in the Labour Party’s
Parliamentary Campaigns Unit where he devised a wealth of campaign
strategies for senior Ministers and Labour Party figures and played
a leading role in implementing the Labour Party’s 2001 General
Election strategy. Previously, Terry worked for Abbey National
in both marketing and branch management roles. He currently works
closely with Cicero’s major financial services clients proving
strategic business consultancy, developing innovative solutions
to public policy issues.

Mark Twigg: Account Director |

Mark has over 10 years’ experience working in politics
and corporate communications. Mark worked for the Labour Party
in the run up to the 1997 general election before becoming a ministerial
aide to Rt Hon Nick Brown at the Ministry of Agriculture. Since
1999 he has worked as a public affairs consultant in London, Brussels
and in the US. During that time he has worked across a wide range
of sectors with a focus on financial services, regulation and EU
policy issues. In addition to his consultancy experience Mark worked
as public affairs manager for Direct Line Group during 2001-02.
